Black Requiem, a lyrical and musical response of pain and hope in the wake of relentless extrajudicial violence against Black bodies, launches today, and is available for streaming across all platforms.

“I’ve never had such a release of emotion like I had listening to the 3rd movement of the Requiem. I was crying like a baby, I couldn’t help it. Each movement within the song, comes with its own set of stories, and emotions, but each and every one is black. Unique to us, our struggles and in a way that only we can fully understand and comprehend. The level of pan, anguish, rage, and lament expressed in this song is something that can only be fully understood by us. She made this for us.”

We grieve daily the Black people murdered in this country; the constant scroll of hashtags; the desensitization to our murders caught on video and spread with macabre zeal, the way postcards of our lynched dead were casually sent through the U.S. Mail.

That’s right! #KBUncomplicated is in 2 Days! What started out as a personal goal has flourished into a gathering where I get share my heart with you. I am in awe. The sweet outpouring of support has been mind blowing.

I met with a few of my sister friends this past Saturday. We started meeting routinely over a year ago just to encourage one another and tend to each other’s joys, dreams, tears, and healings. The spirited conversations and boisterous story-telling triggered songs that would pop into my head.
